What a Wonderful World

“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong is a song that is easily recognizable despite the fact that it is more than 50 years old! I urge you to listen to it today and guarantee it will make you smile. He sings about various joys of life; nature, kindness, friendship, diversity, and the circle of life. His point is that there are great things in life but sometimes we have to take the time to look for them!

This is my favorite few verse in the song:

I see friends shaking hands

Saying, "How do you do?"

They're really saying

"I love you"

I often consider how people say “I love you” without saying “I love you.” When I’m leaving my grandmother's house after dark she says “Watch for deers!” My dad asks about how my car has been running lately. Many people do not say “I love you” explicitly but they say it over and over again with their actions. In a healthy relationship, both words and actions are vital. Sometimes the words are necessary, and other times actions are more important.

Just as people do not always say “I love you” so too is the wonder of life there even if you have to look for it. Looking for the good things can be hard at times but it is important so that we will not become jaded, negative, cranky people who roar about the wrongs of the world all the time. I urge you to think of 3 things that make the world wonderful! Here are my three:

  1. Springtime! I look outside my window and see life returning to a dead landscape. Birds are singing and the grass is slowly coming back to life. The days are longer and nights less cold. All seasons have good and bad parts but springtime is my favorite. What a wonderful world!

  1. Coffee! My second cup of the day is sitting next to me as I write this. It's a perfect concoction of sweet and bitter. Even after just spilling it on myself, It brings me great joy and I think to myself what a wonderful world!

  2. Sisters! Mine are currently blowing up my phone with funny memes and hilarious videos. They support me, love me unconditionally, and make me laugh until my stomach hurts. The world would not be as wonderful without them!

So think to yourself, what makes your world wonderful?
