Today is the Day
Today is the day! It is the time to start something new or finish something old. It is the day to learn, grow, and love with everything in you. Today is the day to start or quit. To ask for help or to offer a hand to someone who needs it! Today is the day and that starts from the moment you open your eyes.
Mornings have a bad reputation; still half-asleep people trying to face the day. Yet mornings are dripping with potential for the day to come! Finding a good morning routine helps to start a day off well. No matter if your morning is fast and chaotic or slow and steady, making today the day is about 1. remembering your why and 2. remembering who you are.
Remembering your why is important in your morning routine because it helps you to focus on what really matters and forces you to be intentional about how you go about your day. Think about all of your to-dos as balls that you are juggling. Some of the balls are plastic and some of them are glass. The plastic ones can fall to the ground without damage and can be picked back up and added to your juggling routine fairly easily again. But the glass balls are more delicate and if dropped requires everything else to stop and clean up the shattered mess! The glass balls are your why and focusing on them in your morning routine can help you to remember what really matters as you go about your day so that you spend less time and stress on things that do not actually matter. Practical ways to incorporate this into your morning routine is to have a dedicated time to naming the glass balls in your life. It could be as simple as a post-it note on your mirror or an alarm on your phone. Remember to name your whys!
Remembering who you are is important because, no matter what you face in your day, having a truthful understanding of who you are helps you to keep in touch with yourself, maintain control of your life, and deal with anything that comes your way. Many people find spiritual practices helpful in remembering who they are because their identity is found in God. Bible reading, devotionals, and worship music can remind you who and whose you are. For others, morning affirmations remind people of their value and that they are in control of their lives. I have a bible verse in my bathroom mirror that I think about every morning as I am brushing my teeth. It helps me to start my day knowing that I am loved, valued, and worthy; knowing that no matter what comes I can walk in confidence.
Maybe today you are stepping out of your comfort zone and starting a business or leaving a relationship behind that's unhealthy. The work that we do in the morning helps us to face the day ahead. Today is the day and it is important to start strong by remembering who you are and why you are here! The rest of your life begins NOW!
