Collect Beautiful Moments

We all have ✨core memory✨ moments in life. Moments that we can point to as defining moments of joy, happiness, pride, or accomplishment. They reflect who we are as people and also are fun to look back on as we live our everyday lives. Sometimes as we are living our lives we wish that we could have more core memories and magical moments but the truth is that there is magic and beauty in the everyday. Pretty lights, colorful sunsets, a meal you are proud of making, friends laughing, or a really good outfit are only a few examples of this everyday kind of magic. Looking for these beautiful moments in our lives is very important because in the busy hustle and bustle it can be easy to overlook good things happening and sometimes if we are in a low place, bad can be all we see. But if we collect beautiful moments we can see that actually not everything is in fact bad! There are lots of wonderful things happening in our lives and we can collect them!

A way that I have collected beautiful moments in the last few years is using an app called One Second Everyday (or 1SE). This free app allows you to choose pictures or videos everyday and then automatically puts them into a video. I absolutely love this app and has become an important part of my grateful practice because it challenges me to look for moments in everyday life that bring me joy. As I go about my days, I am intentional about taking pictures of moments that I would like to remember. It is a screenshot of my life in that season and I look back on past days and get to remember moments that I otherwise probably would have forgotten about. A year of these “seconds” make a six minute video that you can keep for yourself or share with your friends and family. Also I have found that it is a wonderful way to catch up with people and makes me take more photos. ISE works for me but there are other ways to collect memories!

A lot of people find that journaling and scrapbooking are good ways to collect memories. Journaling requires nothing but a piece of paper and a writing utensil and is wonderful for processing beautiful moments and having them live on forever. People who journal can look back on the past and see both the good and bad things. You can paint a picture of beautiful things in your life with your own narrative about the moment. Scrapbooking allows you to collect moments and be creative at the same time! You can print off pictures that make you happy and write about why you included them. Scrapbooking is a multimedia craft and can include a lot of tools (pictures, markers, glue, stickers, etc.) but does not have to! You can take a simple notebook and turn it into a scrapbook collection of beautiful memories in your life!

Whether you do something that I talked about here or not, I hope you can collect beautiful moments in your life in gratitude and wonder because it is magical and deserves to be remembered!
